Before you leave the office for Christmas . . .

5 December 2010 10:00
. . . don't let your break be a distant memory when you return next year

Before you head off on your Christmas break, here's a couple of handy hints so you don't dread that return to the office.

These will pile up on you.  There's no escaping that.  So plan now how you'll handle them when you get back.

Your last task will be to put on your "Out Of Office" reply on.  Give your return date as the day after you get back to allow yourself a day to get organised.

There will be 4 types of e-mails waiting for you when you get back.  Those that need doing, those that you can delete, those that can be deferred and those that you can delegate.  These are the "4 D's".  Hopefully there will be those that fall into a 5th D though - the fun ones that you can distribute (know your IT security policy before attempting this one!).

With those that need doing or you can defer to later, use a system to plan when you'll do them.  If you'd like to use First Train's "Electronic Bring Forward System", then simply rely to this e-mail and we'll send you the instructions.

As we say at First Train, if you plan for the expected, you'll be prepared for the unexpected.  We don't like surprises after a relaxing holiday and this is how we achieve it.

Next Year
There's been a lot in the press about happiness this year.  We'll kick off the first newsletter of next year looking at whether happiness is important for your workforce.  We'll be back from the 10th January, so keep an eye out for it.

#Ding dong, merrily on high#

All that remains for me to do is to thank you for your continued support this year.  And to wish you a very Merry Chirstmas and a fun filled New Year.

Seasons wishes
