Thinking of a new job in 2009?

10 December 2008 10:05
Good Morning,
And welcome to First Train.
Free "Getting a New Job" 1-on-1 Meeting
Are you thinking about a new job for the New Year?
In the current climate of fear and scare mongering, most of my friends and current clients are thinking about what 2009 has in store for them.  With more and more companies announcing redundancies, it's not surprising really.
And if you work for one of those companies, you know that they will still announce millions of dollars in profits next year, because at the end of the day, they have to look after their share holders before their employees.
That's where First Train comes to the rescue.  We insist on putting the human back in Human Resources.  At First Train, it's all about you.
So whether you're being forced to find a new job or want to jump before the boat sinks, how do you know what kind of job you're looking for?  Here's some handy tips.
3 Questions before you start looking
  1. What have you loved about previous jobs?
  2. What do you enjoy doing in your personal life and how could you incorporate that into your working life?
  3. How are you going to find out if it's the right job for you by only the interview?
3 things to do once you know what job you want
  • List 10 companies you would really like to work for
  • Research them and talk to current employees
  • Target your CV to each company
Recruiters aren't necessarily going to help you work out what job you want to do; they're more likely to try to place you in the vacancies they want to fill.  So you need to approach them with a clear and focussed idea about what you want from them.  Take charge and be in control of your future!
For confidential, independent support in finding a new job or help brushing up your CV, then contact me on 0405 784071 for your free one hour chat.
Look forward to hearing from you.
